Below are the German toy manufacturers represented in the Landmark Collection.
Founded 1906. Introduced the novelty motorcycle 'Mac' in the 1950's: the rider pulls up and dismounts, pauses, remounts and drives away. This model was copied by the Japanese and reproduced in much larger numbers as a battery toy.
GEBRUDER FLEISCHMANN
Nuremburg, Germany. Founded in 1897. Manufactured a wide range of toys especially boats. Trademark G.F.N. in a triangle.
CARETTE OF NUREMBERG 1886
Founded by Georges Carette producing fine quality tin plate mechanical cars, boats, planes
and railways.
DISTLER OF NUREMBERG 1900
Founded by Johann Distler famous for penny toys and a range of toy cars and trains eventually taken over by Trix. Trademark, JD on a thistle (Distler is german for thistle) or J.D.N.on a globe after World War 11
HANS ERBERL
Nuremburg, Germany. Founded c 1900. Trademarks: H.ER.N. also a clown in a circle with Ebo Hui Hui(or Oi Oi)
GREPPERT & KELCH
Brandenburg, Germany. Founded c 1900. Produced many small tinplate toys often in the style of Lehmann. Trademark. G & K in a hexagon.
HESS OF NUREMBERG 1826
Founded by Mattheus Hess. The company originally manufacturered toy trains but later introduced its fly-wheel driven “Hessmobile” range of toy cars identifiable from the starting handle used to wind up frictiuon mechanism. Trademark J&L in an H; Hessmobil.
SCHREYER & CO. TRADEMARK SCHUCO
Founded in 1912 by Herr Schreyer and Heinrich Muller. The company became famous for its toy cars and motorcycles manufactured in the 30's 40's and 50's many of which were patented. In 1999 the brand became a member of the Simba Group based in Furth, Germany. The brand is now flourishing again as part of the Simba Dickie Group, a major Toy Company.
